Care Ministry

Ministering in prayer, God's encouragement, comfort and hope
HOSPITAL VISITATION: Good Shepherd has a trained visitation team who make hospital visits. These wonderful listeners come prepared to pray with you and offer encouragement. If a hospital stay is coming up for you or your care recipient, you may wish to call the church office with your information, 503.663.5050.
IN-HOME VISITATION: If the person you care for is confined with a homebound condition, a Care Team member would love to come alongside them for prayer and encouragement. To request such a visit, call Lois Williams, 503.658.8219.
FOOTPRINTS OF FAITH: The stories of your life can be a powerful memorial to God's faithfulness and provision. When we record these notable events, they become like stepping stones -- marking where we have been and creating a path for others to follow. Let this be written for a future generation that a people not yet created may praise the LORD. Ps 102:18. Are you interested in recording your journey or the stories of a loved one? We can help with resources to get you started. Contact Lisa Clear, 503.663.1113.
MEMORIAL SERVICES: at GSCC are organized so that the bereaved family need only deal with one person throughout the planning process. This one person is part of a team who works closely with our pastors and a variety of ministries to facilitate the printing of memorial folders, customizing the order of service, reserving chairs for family members and supplying refreshments. Contact Lee Ann Cook, 503.668.8349
GRIEF SHARE: If you have lost a loved one, you know there are not many people who understand the deep hurt you feel. Grief Share is designed to be an exception, a safe place for hurting folks. The thirteen week class also provides valuable information about recovering from your grief and renewing your hope for the future. Grief Share meets on Sundays, September 11 to December 11, 4:30 - 6:30 pm in room S106. Cost: $30 per person. Contact Sharon and Doug Carlson for details, 503.663.1098.
All God’s Children – Disability Ministry
The heart of this ministry is that every child of God be given equal opportunity to hear who Jesus is, worship Him confidently and share the gift of who they are (just as they are!) with the rest of the church body!
The heart of this ministry is that every child of God be given equal opportunity to hear who Jesus is, worship Him confidently and share the gift of who they are (just as they are!) with the rest of the church body!
Our vision is to facilitate relationships within the church body that would make Good Shepherd accessible to every child and family. One way that we are doing this is through a “buddy system” which allows you to attend church services while a volunteer attends existing Sunday school classes with your child/family member. We would love the opportunity to get to know you and your family’s needs. Please fill out a Family Intake Form (available at the information kiosks and outside Sunday school classrooms). For additional information on how we might be able to offer support, contact Cassi LeTourneau, 971.409.8245 or cassi97023@gmail.com.
Caring for the Caregivers
Strengthening caregivers by offering God’s comfort, encouragement, and practical resources
Encouragement by Email: We try to facilitate community by sending periodic emails to our caregivers at GSCC and beyond. Those who advocate for and/or personally attend to the needs of others serve in a role that can bring much joy and satisfaction. The increasing requirements of the care recipient, however, may result in the caregiver’s isolation. If you would like to receive these emails or contribute to them, please contact Melody Miller, 503.989.6258.
Equipping Times: Our Caregiver Support Team hosts periodic teaching on topics pertinent to advocacy and caregiving. We have received very positive feedback on the moving personal testimonies, professional perspectives and biblical teaching previously given by Dr. Bob Sayson, Alan Hlavka, Janie and Jonathan Martin. The depth of discussion that follows these presentations fosters a unique opportunity to connect with others in like circumstances.
Relevant Reading: A variety of books pertinent to caregivers are available in our GSCC library. A Caregiver Reading List, including brief reviews, can be found in the rack just outside the door to the library. Our GSCC library is open: M-Th: 9 am-4:30 pm, Fri: 9 am-12 noon, Sat: 5-7 pm, Sun: 8:45 am-12:30 pm.
Resource Box: If you are researching your caregiving options, consider checking out the box of materials our Caregiver Support Team has collected from the larger community. The Caregiver Resource Box is available on Mondays and Tuesdays in Mary Murphy’s office at the church. Please call ahead, 503.663.5050.
